Software as a Service (SaaS)

On the latest segment of Rothman Tech-Tips (#RTT), I interviewed Doug Church of Vantage Point Solutions on a hot technology known as Software as a Service or SaaS. SaaS  is a software delivery model in which software and its associated data are hosted centrally (typically in the (Internet) cloud) and are typically accessed by users using a thin client, a web browser over the Internet. The one quote from this video that really struck me was when Doug said “Software as a Service is allowing small business to take advantage of enterprise level software solutions.” That made me think of a great book by Seth Godin about small businesses called Small is the New Big. It is a must read for anyone out there in the SMB space.  To learn more about Software as a Service or SaaS, you can contact Doug at DChurch@vpsg.net.

For the #idontcook segment of this blog Doug recommended Agave Restaurant and Bar in Lewes, Delaware. He is a big fan of their margaritas, and a jalapeno stuffed appetizer called Hot Mexican Rockets.  In the video when Doug mentioned Lewes, Delaware, I instantly thought about the Lewes, DE – Cape May, NJ ferry that I have taken on numerous occasions.  The 17-mile, 85-minute cruise between New Jersey and Delaware can cut miles off a trip along the Atlantic Coast, and allowed me to party in Dewey Beach one day, then jump on the ferry and gamble all day in Atlantic City the next day.  Not the healthiest of weekends, but hey we all have our vices.
